RAPHO Agency in the heart of Paris is one of the oldest photographic press agencies in the capital. It is also one of the most famous for the diversity and renown of its photographers. It represents some of the most well-known humanistic photographers but also a team of photo-journalists and contemporary photographers published world-wide and who have been honored by the most prestigious photographic prizes. RAPHO is at once the agency of tradition and that of modernity.
It was in 1933 that Charles Rado, a Hungarian immigrant, gathered around him a few photographer friends in order to distribute their work. And so RAPHO Agency was born (RAdo - PHOto).
In 1946, Raymond Grosset reopened the agency which had been closed during the war. He directed the agency, along with his wife Barbara, for over forty years. His children, Mark and Kathleen, succeeded Mr. Grosset in 1992.
In 1977, TOP Agency and RAPHO Agency joined together, an association which enabled the two agencies to propose several new departments to its extended clientele such as decorative arts, travel, food.
In December 2000, RAPHO and TOP Agencies joined the Hachette Filipacchi Photos Group.
